Disney Honored for Leadership in Job Growth
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 16, 2012 – Governor Rick Scott and Enterprise Florida presented Walt Disney Parks and Resorts with an award recognizing the company as one of the state’s top job producers.
“We are pleased to recognize Walt Disney Parks and Resorts as one of Florida’s top jobs producers for 2012,” said Gray Swoope, Secretary of Commerce and President & CEO of Enterprise Florida. “For more than 40 years the company has been one of the state’s most important job creators and economic partners.”
Now in its 29th year, the Innovators in Business Awards highlight outstanding contributions toward improving and diversifying Florida’s economy.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts made a number of recent investments in Central Florida, from the expansion of Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park to the construction of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort to the launch of Disney Cruise Line’s newest cruise ships.
Growth has created thousands of jobs in construction and across operations at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, ranging from frontline Cast Members to new management positions.
Earlier this month New Fantasyland officially opened at Magic Kingdom Park. Once complete in 2014, that project alone will create 1,500 jobs.
Today there are more than 66,000 Cast Members in Central Florida.
